Passage of time indeed... in '94 he was young, and AOL's members and sound were far more aggressive. Bachmann "ruined" his voice by over-straining it. I've heard the strain was mostly from him intentionally singing an octave under his natural level, but obviously I don't really know. Obviously he has aged and gained experience, as we all have... he's found a new sound that's far less guttural and aggressive, and that seems to reflect his (and vicariously our own) experience of maturation over the years between hearing the two versions.Beautiful stuff. Both versions are absolutely amazing, and the differences between the two just add to both.

He's talking about whatever you want him to talk about. That's the beauty of their songs. You can get a multitude of meanings from them. I suppose that's what good song writing is all about.
