This is a very good starting point. After this is set up, I use a decibel meter (Android App) and make sure that my volume levels are even. Then if I want more bass across all strings I lower my bridge pickup. If I want more treble across all of my strings I lower the neck pick up.

Good god man! Even out your volumes!! You get blasted in the face with music at the beginning (turn down) then it's really quiet when you're talking (turn back up), then you get blasted again at the end!!!

Measuring distance to set pickup height isn't that effective. Set at somewhere near 1/8 inch and then raise bridge/lower neck pickups till the volume output from each is the same. That's the base starting point. Pickups should be adjusted from there for desired tone (neck = lows, bridge = mids). If pickups are too high, you will experience "chorusing" from the magnet in the pickup interacting with the strings vibrations.

just make quarter turns or half turns until you like the sound? and remember how many you did in case you fuck it up.  I dont get why people use measurements saying "i raise mine a 1/8 inch and you get good tone etc", each pickup is as different as each instrument regardless of model.

well that kind of bass sound very good for the price, i don't know what kind of sound are u looking for, but check first your strings, maybe u need new ones, you can be surprised of the sound just replacing old strings with new ones. I boiled my strings sometimes when I'm short on money and get good results.

To adjust my basses pickups height i find it best to use my ears and a fast reacting VU meter (DIGITAL)!

The pickup should at the height where it sounds the best, and that depends both on the specific pickup and the player!
