Recorded in 1977/78, for the Trio album that never was until 1987, but this track was unreleased. I believe it was because at the time both Dolly and Linda's recording companies refused to let them record an album with Emmylou, but I'm not sure...

Je ne sais pas combien de fois nous avons écouté ce disque, l'un contre l'autre, dans le divan à Lasne, mais c'était un de nos grands moments...

to me the music backings sounds absolutely identical to the emmylou version, like dolly and lindas voices were just added to the original single. it's absolutely sublime in places, especially the little angelic runs, but nothing beats the Chordettes for me. However, Linda and Emmylou are stone cold 70s babes, i'd rather look at them than the Chordettes, sorry Chordette-ladies :)

On this day in 1981 {February 22nd} Emmylou Harris' covered version of "Mr. Sandman" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #83; and eight weeks later on April 19th it peaked at #37 {for 1 week} and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100...It reached #10 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart; and #1 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart...And exactly twenty-three years earlier on February 22nd, 1958 the Chordettes performed the original version of the song on the ABC-TV program 'Dick Clark Saturday Night Beechnut Show'...On November 18th, 1954 the Chordettes' version peaked at #1 {for 7 weeks} on Billboard's Best Sellers chart...

Yes I prefer the single Emmylou Harris version to this one. Almost as good as the Chordates version from the early fifties

I prefer the single version that Harris released.  But i think this version was indeed released, but not as a single, because of issues you previously mentioned.  However, if i have read correctly, it was released on the Album Evangeline by Emmylou Harris.  This is what is heard on the album, the single that she released has her rerecording both of Linda and Dolly's parts of the song.

I've known this version for decades without realizing there were two other singers including Linda Ronstadt, my favotite.
