Great song to close the final scene of the final episode of the final season of Game of Thrones.

Jerusalem wasn't banned. In fact it features heavily in BBC programming and would never by cut from any sports broadcast if played or sung. However, the BBC had a rule about not playing sacred music from any religion which has been turned into a "pop" song, and the ELP version of Jerusalem fell foul of that. I don't know whether that rule still exists, but it is still true that broadcast adverts on commercial channels aren't allowed to use sacred music.

1804 Blake writes these words (poem) . . . they reflect a bad theology, a black doctrine; born out of the Dark Ages and still to this day, sneaks into 'modern' teachings. These word outline a want to build the "new jerusalem" in England (or the assumption that God will build the 'new jerusalem" in England . . . thus: bring me my chariot of fire . . .). The lost tribe of Israel? . . . might as well be Salt Lake City . . .there are cults (and more to come) that create myth out of Bible verses. The New Jerusalem will 'come down from heaven' (Rev 21:12) . . . not to be built by men in England, or Salt Lake City Navada, nor in Israel for that matter! (oh no! what did Rush mean? 2112? see how this works? Did you know there are people who believe in the lost City of Atlantis? and some of those inhabitants forsaw the demise and left the planet? - it never ends - now sinister people blew up the twin towers and will return to altlantis in 2112 to the new jerusalem - new religion right there!)

The English song Jerusalem was banned by the BBC because it offended a particular group of people. It would make a good anthem for the next Crusade. The melody was written in 1916 and the lyrics date back to WWII*"And did the countenance divineShine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded hereAmong those dark satanic mills?"*

Blake refused to take an oath in court, saying he was a druid. There's more to this poem than meets the eye. It was claimed as a Christian hymn of course after Parry put it to music. It has nothing to do with war and everything about peace.

It's seems to me that only the Zionist and their Ilk would be so offended. Just saying.

Was it just their arrangement that the BBC found offensive; because it's an unofficial anthem of England's Football Association in the UK. In 2011 it was played @ the weddings of William and Catherine and @ Princess Anne's daughter Zara later that same year when she married rugby union player Mike Tindall.

Great version, the miserable vicar at my wife and my wedding would not let us have the original version as one of our hymns.Said the answer to all the questions was no,advocated war, lust greed etc and the final straw was that William Blake was high on opium when he wrote the words ! SO WHAT,everything about it is great.

I'm from the U.S. and was in high school when Brain Salad Surgery came out. Loved all ELP did. Loved this song without knowing the meaning or history. A few years ago I was in Florida visiting some friends from England and played this song on my phone, asking if they knew this. The female started tearing up as it played and 35 years after first hearing it I learned all about it and enjoy it even more. What a song and what a band!
