Elvis did not write anything. That is a fact. But his influence on many of the songs was substantial. At the end of the day it is what ends on the record that matters. I can't think of any other artist who makes about 90% of all cover songs better than the original. Elvis did that in my opinion. Add that to all of the other great things Elvis did = The King of Rock N Roll.

Elvis rarely wrote or co-wrote any of his material, even though he received co-writing credits. On the other hand, he took a firm hand in the recording studio, so many of the changes on record to a song could be attributed to him although never receiving production credit. So one could argue that he had a hand in altering the song, thus earning at least some of that credit.

With respect, I think you are mistaken. He is not known for ever writing or even co-writing his own material.This was down to manager Col Parker wangling extra money for his client (or rather himself) by telling songwriters that Elvis would record their song in exchange for a shared writers credit. The writers would often agree as an Elvis recording of their song (even with split royalties) would get them far more money than if some other singer recorded it. Still the King, non the less!
