B-side to the 1976 smash hit single "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". Lyrics by Bernie Taupin, music by Elton John & Davey Johnstone. The words are an unflattering tribute to Cher. Note how Elton sings "I Got You, Babe" at the end, as the song fades! Reportedly, Elton apologized once to Cher for recording the song, and she hadn't even heard of it! Musically it's quite interesting because it's a guitar song, not played on piano at all. Davey Johnstone played the acoustic guitar beautifully on this, and listen to the great drums and percussion by Roger Pope and Ray Cooper!

I'm a huge EJ fan, and I have to say this is one of his worst efforts at the time. It's almost as though he didn't want to write it. There's no real melody. It's appealing because it's got an ethereal 70s quality but there's no hook like his other songs.11 years назад

The more I think about it, they probably didn't. Elton, for whatever reason, probably had them credited because he wanted them to have some extra cash in the form of royalties. Which, as the B-side of a big #1 hit, would have been considerable! By the way, I assume the "snow" refers to cocaine?12 years назад

I agree! I don't know why this song didn't take off. At the time this was out on the B side I had hitchhiked to AZ after my mom kicked me out at the age of 14. I nearly went into job corps. in LA. While waiting for the opening I stayed at a group home in Sierra Vista AZ! They gave me a really cool room that was mural painted, a record player and a bunch of albums and 45s to occupy me. I played the crap out of this song. I ended up moving into a trailer with a bunch of teens and partying. LOL12 years назад

Good question! I had forgotten that Kiki & Nutter are listed as writers. Was he her husband???? David Nutter was a photographer with EJ. He did the Blue Moves album and the book of Elton's 1976 tour, the book called "It's a Little Bit Funny". I would love to know what role he (the photographer) and Kiki had in writing this song! Yes, a lot of B-sides fron 1976-1986 haven't been issued on CD -- enough for a "Rare Masters, Vol. 2"! This is one of them. Kiki and David Nutter (her husband) get composer credits on the single. Why?14 years назад

Yes, this recording is from the original vinyl B-side of the 7-inch single "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". Converted to an mp3 file by playing it into the computer. Others have included it on "bootleg" compilations, but I'm pretty sure it's always just recordings from the original vinyl. I don't think it's ever been remastered and officially released on CD. Shame! It's a great song!14 years назад
