You cannot compare 2 legends, you can only try to understand their message, each one has a different message. It is not about, she's no stevie or Stevie is no Ray Charles, it's about the message dude. You have to listen and feel the music within your soul to come to this conclusion. Hope you understand.

I commented on this a while back but this piece is just too much on another level, so here goes another one of my comments...Yes, she is gorgeous, beautiful, one of Jazz's most premiere performers and music artists of all time. Her voice takes you to Brazil, but her style keeps you in New York. Truly international and reaches your soul with this tune. Eliane will always be a force in Music period. It is only fitting that she uses one of our soul men of all time in Stevie's song to elaborate.

This is a good version but nothing comes close to the composer's version with more fire, samba and soul. Btw, for your info Stevie played all the instruments in all his recordings. The drums here sound like a drum machine and it's not even a samba. I like Eliane but let's face it, she's no Stevie.

This version sounds like something you'd hear in a dentist's office. And I hate dentists' offices. I don't hate this version, mind you, but this one time in which I open-mindedly listened to it will be the last. *turns on the REAL shit*

@blueslystone With respect,I don't think Eliane atempted to re-create the original version,instead it seems ( to my ears at least) that she has taken the inherent Brazilian feel of the original & expanded on that aspect,which she does beautifully.It's very cool,hushed,harmonically very sophisticated (as the original is but with a few touches of her own) and very atmospheric. Great songs can withstand (and gain something) from different interpretations.I adore the original but love this too.

This just isn't nearly as interesting as Stevie's version--it's missing those amazing polyrhythms (between the back-up singers and drums, for example), and a lot of the weird atmosphere that his instrumentation brings. With all due respect, it sounds like everything exciting and bizarre about the song was watered-down into acceptable music to buy your groceries to.
