Elf Power is incredibly Awesome. they were kind of on the periphery of the Drag City Scene in the late 80s/early 90s [Royal Trux, Will Oldham/Palace Bros/Palace Music, Silver Jews and after Malkmus left Silver Jews and made Pavement - very briefly Pavement. they somehow never really caught on. i suppose Will Oldham or Palace or Bonnie Prince Billy has achieved the most fame/acclaim. i really don't count Pavement, as they went to LA pretty much right away.clearly, it's tough for bands from the Midwest - and especially those that Stay There - to get their due or... something.but Elf Power rules. all of this Record [Vainly Clutching at Phantom Limbs] is immensely badass. their Cover Album - "Nothing's Going to Happen" is amazing and shows great taste [they cover The Frogs for-the-love-o-crumb-cake! how much more esoterically awesome does it get than that?!]. some of the more recent [mid aughts mostly] stuff is not really my cup-o-tea compared to Phantom Limbs and Nothing's Going to Happen, but are still very good.i cannot recommend them strongly enough.
