I once heard that that aluminium fronted Venolo guitar may have been given to him by his friend at the time, Marc Bolan. Was rumoured that Bolan played on this track, but sadly he didnt, Jeff Lynne borrowed his Gibson Firebird guitar for the session however.Bolan did actually play guitar on the hit Ma-Ma-Ma Belle and a couple of album tracks Dreaming Of 4000 and Everybodys Born To Die.

There would have no song like this withouth the influence of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". Yet I adore ELO and even this particular song too much to tag it a ripoff. Am I blind, or is not that excessively similar after all? Oh my, a fan's dilemma...

She cried to the Southern windAbout a love that was sure to endEvery dream in her heart was goneHeading for a showdown.Bad dreamer, what's your name?Looks like we're riding on the same trainLooks as though there'll be more painThere's gonna be a showdown. And it's raining, all over the worldRaining, all over the worldTonight, the longest night. She came to me like a friendShe blew in on the Southern windNow my heart is turned to stone againThere's gonna be a showdown.Save me, oh save meIt's unreal, the sufferingThere's gonna be a showdown. And it's raining, all over the worldRaining, all over the worldTonight, the longest night.(Raining, raining raining, raining)Raining, all over the worldRaining, all over the worldThe longest night. And it's raining, all over the worldRaining, all over the worldTonight, the longest night. You gotta save me, girlWell, I'm ready for savingI'm a fool for youYa know I'm ready, come on and save meCan't you feel what you're doing to me, now?I'm on the run again. Gotta save meSongwriters: Lynne, Jeff

Weird, the memories a song can bring back: when I was at Concordia University (Montreal) in the mid-70s, this was always part of the pre-game warmup music. So I can't listen to this without seeing Glenn Tomalty, Randy Mohns, Mark Shewchuk, John Harris, Tex Hansis, Gaetan Potvin, et al, firing pucks at Jim Corsi ..... (stop me: I'm in my anec-dotage)

@silksashbash Hey! I had this song playing in my head since I was young. Never knew who is actually singing. Now I see. Really like this song a lot, just in my mind, was and will. As soon as I heard it now, I feel all the same emotions came back again. Reminds me something as well. And now it is more personal, will remember that number plate we always used to see in Ton Pentre, the one in front of our car with ELO letters. Hope to see again. Little Willy liked this group a lot. xxx
