I think both versions are great. Zoot is more upbeat & McCartney's version is more of a rock Ballad. There is room for them both.

Nothing can beat an original song, because that is the way it is supposed to sung. But, having said that, there is bad versions of original songs. eg; Guns n Roses version of Knocking on Heavens Door. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE INSULT TO THE CLASSIC. No one does better that the original. They can do a slightly different outlook to the song, which can be good, but too many artists take the song and make it really bad. Just my opinion.

The Beatles gave their song the calmer, simpler and quieter tune because its representing her loneliness and unknowing death. You just cant replace that with more rock instrumental than actual lyric either.
