I adore Elaine Paige but I agree this is not her best work. Check out her version of memories from cats. Although perhaps the fact the song here is too jazzed up also contributes to the lack of wow.

As duas são excelentes, mas uma é soprano com certeza (Elaine) a outra é contralto (Susan), por isso essa pequena diferença nas vozes, mas a interpretação da Susan realmente é mais emocionante, mas não tira a beleza da voz da Elaine..

There is a more refined voice with Elaine Page, but they are very close to sounding much like the other. Elaine Page's voice is more relaxed if you will! It;s kind of like chocolate, there is milk chocolate, dark chocolate the same but different, a little but more in one then the other. Both taste very good. So these two sound similar but different in there own right. I would not say Susan sounds better nor Elaine Page. It is what you like. I love both Elaine Page a Susan Boyle's singing. Both are talented and wonderful singers but I think Elaine has an edge because of her voice training and experience on stage.I think Susan would be better if she felt more comfortable moving around on the stage more. Just loosen up a bit more and as she says just have fun doing what you love, and that is singing and interacting with people. Susan is great with the public and we can identify with her more because she makes herself more accessible to the public. So this is the difference I see in the two.

I love Elaine's voice, I really do. But her phrasing in this song is slightly off, and it doesn't seem to suit her.

To Viktor D. I agree with you. I'm an Elaine Page fan from way back, but in this song she lacks the emotional and vocal impact of Susan, It's all subjective, but to me, Susan own's this song

Every time I listen to Elaine Paige I listen to a perfect singer. But there´s not a piece of emotion in her voice. This is the first song I feel! Great. But I agree the performance of Susan Boyle is much more emotional.

I've listened to each: Elaine Paige, Patti LuPone, Ruthie Henshall - each hailed for their talented performances. IMO Ruthie personifies Fantine in her interpretation -- I love her true to character version. However, I cannot deny that Susan Boyle's performance is the most powerful, forceful, heartfelt of all. It's why BGT's audience was on their feet when she opened her mouth to sing I Dreamed A Dream.
