the funk in this groove hits the stars, we had a massive stereo that resemble a casket and it could pump out the bass, the horns and bass in this cut matches James Brown's flavor..and I like the idea ( Black harmony. we got it more soul)

Nice job on the bass! I am an acquaintance of Art Laboe. He must be 90 now, but he still has his record company and makes oldie albums, mainly for the Latino community. He also does a 5-hour radio show 6 nights a week on an LA station and a network he has assembled. He just keeps on ticking!

They were the funkiest guys to ever come out of Buffalo, that seems like what it was. Their Funky Broadway was a local hit and Wilson Pickett picked up on it. But the song had nothing to do with Buffalo, it was about Broadway Rd in Phoenix. They played a gig there and the area was so hip they wrote the song about that street. Dyke and the Blazers did it well (they wrotee it after all), but Wilson Pickett took it to the next level.

It's funny, in the late 60s, songs about racial harmony and togetherness were very "in". I like this one because he's not trying to be nice, he's just saying, "Ha ha, we're better than you." I respect that. :-)
