Watching the Duke Ellington Jazz 65 show (kindly encoded by Mr lfbarfe), I was VERY taken with the performance of Isfahan, from the "Far East Suite." I've chopped it out to share on YouTube, partly so I can keep it handy. Hope you enjoy it. Johnny Hodge's playing is extraordinarily beautiful, very warm and emotive. it's a gorgeous piece, that's certain. call it Blues in the Night if you want (even though it's not a blues.) the real question is why Duke is holding the music for a Master like Hodges when it's clear he knows the piece perfectly well? back then, this is what passed for "show biz" I guess. Bill M comments that he wants to go back to that era. be careful what you wish for. most music from that time was god awful, just like now.7 years назад

I visited this town 10 years ago, even then it wasn't more the place described by Strayhorn and I prefere do not think about how it has become today.
