DREAM THEATER

When Dream and Day Unite (1989)

2 - STATUS SEEKER

[music by Dream Theater]

[lyrics by Dominici and Petrucci]

Heart sick at the sight of the

Status Seeker

In a sense I'm not beyond reproach

the aspiration to drop a name

When any rose might smell the same

Maybe you'll figure it out someday

'I want to know you now...

You know I've always believed in you.'

Nothing is sacred...

You draw the bottom line

with a dollar sign

Change of opinion...

At the drop of a dime

Graceless intrusion...

Are you sanctified in your judgment of me?

All that I deserve is what you were unable to see

In a garden where the seeds were spilled

I favored the few that stood strong in the sun

As I reached for the profit of my prize

I found I had trampled the forgotten ones.

Nothing is sacred...

You draw the bottom line

with a dollar sign

Change of opinion...

At the drop of a dime

Graceless intrusion...

Are you sanctified in your judgment of me?

All that I deserve is what you were unable to see

You're running in circles

And I'm turning away

You refused to believe

Now I'm turning away

Nothing is sacred...

You draw the bottom line

with a dollar sign

Change of opinion...

At the drop of a dime

Graceless intrusion...

Are you sanctified in your judgment of me?

All that I deserve is what you were unable to see

You're running in circles

And I'm turning away

You refused to believe

Now I'm turning away

With this song , the band's message seemed to be : if you're a Saga or a Rush fan, you will like us ! Come and listen to our music, we're all part of the same family !!

This 1989 first LP was all I ever got by this long lived band. I bought the CD's of very few bands going forward from there. I never liked that big unit price hike in that quick changeover from vinyl. I was just too old to be jerked much anymore. Far worse now!

This is Prog and is very good Prog. I have a lot of it but this first LP is all I have of this band. I remember it was pretty highly sought when I got it over 20 years ago.

Tried listening to Octavarium, didn't like it at all. Very bland. But this... This has got some real passion.

Foo Fighters are damn terrible... don't YOU EVER compare Foo Fighters to Dream Theater... it's blasphemy!!!

no it's not pop, it's progressive metal/rock with uplifting sounds. You just have no clue about music. Go listen to your shitty foo fighters and crappy radio rock.

I totally agree with you. Labrie´s voice is perfect to Dream Theater. Im not saying that Dominicci´s voice is awful, no, simply his voice is not to Dream Theater. Labrie is AWESOMEEE!!!

The only I see as a influence from Rush is Ytse Jam because it reminds me so much of the instrumental track Yyz. Nothing is original with DT, they are good, but nothing spectacular.

the beginning sounds a little bit like an 80's rush song.
