Well, you gotta step in his shoes for a while and try to really grasp everything that was happening to him personally (his father dying, him finishing his 12-step suit). He probably was trying to run away from the memories that the few last moments in the band (the dude owes his dad for giving Majesty their first push in his basement all those years ago); I'd say he matured to a level in which he didn't feel the need to carry on in the band... To which we all know he regrets he did...
