A total classic. This man knew how to belt it out even 50 years later.

He was one of the greats--and this arrangement, it's one of the best Fletcher Henderson wrote for Goodman--still a thrill to hear it so many decades later. Goodman was in excellent form here and he had a terrific (probably pick-up) band behind him; I think that's what sparked him. Thanks for sharing this!

Benny gave "the ray" to more cats than can be imagined. Laurie Frink is playing lead, Benny put Paul Cohen on the 4th book that night. True story!

Certainly Paulie Cohen in the section, but not on the Lead chair. That's the late, great Laurie Frink leading the section. RIP LF.

The great Paulie Cohen on lead trumpet.

I was born in the late 80s and I grew up playing rock and metal music, until I was 20. Then I just realize I was born to tell everyone in this earth about this music, it's all about swing! I wanna make this music everlasting! Long Live Benjamin David Goodman. Greetings from Indonesia.

Note how chrisp those upbeats are in the final measure--the attacks and decays in tutti are on the money every time--also not rushing. Further, if you listen closely you can clearly hear the decending bass line (trb III and bari sax and contrabass), which is wonderful--fancy that, an decending bass line vs. an asending lead!! Henderson was classically trained, of course. And, Goodman was very respectful of that, also having a moderate classical background.

@JazzmanBerlin and some morons say Chick Webb is better. Goodman has style that Webb would never have.
