From the album Mellow Yellow - Wear Your Love Like Heaven (1967)

Girl ain't nothing but a willow tree

Swaying in a summer breeze,

You'll never change what has to be.

Girl ain't nothing but a willow tree.

Sometimes I don't know what I said till I did,

I want to be the father of your kid.

Dragonfly he sleeps till dawn,

I knew I'd be here when love has gone.

Crystal ball is what I wish for you,

Get it straight, I love the both of you.

Someone's goin' through a cold turkey.

Girl ain't nothing but a willow tree.

I give your baby a contact high

I love another is what I sigh -ha-

Looks like rain, I do declare,

Your baby wants to take my chocolate eclair.

I couldn't cry, I could not laugh,

Incident about a silken scarf.

I know what a jealous trip can be.

Girl ain't nothing but a willow tree.

Girl ain't nothing but a willow tree

Swaying in a summer breeze,

You'll never change what has to be,

Girl ain't nothing but a willow tree.

Weep for me, willow tree,

Weep for me, willow tree.

His gayest song. Not that obscure!

Very 1967. This is COOL. PETER BROUGHTON First time i've heard this song, obviously influenced by Bert Jansch, who i heard was a great friend from his early days.Love this song abstract lyrics and all and the guitar playing does credit to Jansch whom i greatly admire too, many thanks for the video.Guy Conrad vor 3 JahrenOne of my top favorite Donovan songs, and relatively obscure. Had trouble finding it until now. MrJamesrnolan vor 3 JahrenLyrics are a wee bit abstract, so I'm unsure about their exact interpretation. It sounded at first like it was about a guy unable to choose between two women, but then it appeared more like he was interested in a lady who already had a child and he'd been surprisingly jolted that both mother and child had won him over so completely. The metaphors and (out of its normal context) drug jargon make it harder to decipher, but that makes it more interesting. And it's a nice homage to Bert Jansch too.Donovan - House Of Jansch
