Fagen was a well read Geek before alzheimers got to him. Goethe was lying on his death bed the last time i saw him, and he was calling out "more light". His poor housekeeper, who he was bangin right up to the end thought he wanted the drapes drawn back. So much for the proles. Can we just move on...please?

On so many songs by Steely Dan and Donald Fagen, when I listen there is always that sweet spot in the song that touches me deep within. It could be the background, the instruments, but always Donald Fagen's voice. It always catches me and takes me there...

You've just heard more of that legendary "Fagen Funk." Smoother than glass. A life long fan and devotee (Steely Dan as well). Thank you Mr. Fagen for all the GREAT music, past, present and yet to be heard! Leo Ameruba.

I like this, it's a funky little laid back kind of groove. ( ^ _ ^ )

Donald's in that wonderful place (like Dylan) where he can explore his musical inventions and expand on them in any way he wishes. nice

simply does not compare to Nightfly or earlier. Is growing old as awful as fagen and backer make it look?

That guitar solo is among the nicest I've heard...phrasing, tone, everything.

so - some accuse DF here of being "bland" - in fact part of his DNA is a laid back kind of mellowness - some casual listeners might think "florida room" or "hey 19" or "maxine" are bland at first listen - but they dont get it in its context - DF isnt doin this stuff to "break new ground" hes just makin sweet grooves for discerning music fans to enjoy riding along with for 4 minutes or so (& crack a smile at the lyrics) ,thats all it ever was or is.

The grooves on this album are incredible, especially this song. it is so understated with enough space in the music to make it really kick and sound interesting. Great lyrics!

OK, so many people think Donald's stuff is "bland." If they had a guitar or a keyboard could they sit in at the sessions? Can they identify the chord progressions or the voicings? Could they lay down some of those bass lines? Could they kick out lyrics like, "Today we were walking down by the reptile cage?" In other words, do they have a sense of humor? Lyrically, Donald has evolved from an acerbic, Dylanesque observer of others (Do It Again) to a very funny and gentle observer of the advanced-age hipster. And his voice has followed that direction, now more fragile and vulnerable - but still funny. Sit in your car, turn off the motor and play this song at top volume. The s___ cooks. Take out your tenor and blow along with the changes and good luck with that. Fagen is still giving us good stuff. I always want more.

Or as a friend said of some of his recent work: "It sounds like he composed it while lying in bed"

Agreed, something bland here, as if the the listener is forgotten and the musicians on vacation.

Colin... for the most part... I agree here.
