"Silver Dagger", also known as "Katy Dear" is an American folk ballad. It likely traces its roots to the British Isles of late 19th century, though possibly much earlier; the first published version appeared in 1907. This tune has been covered by many, including, but not limited to, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, and, of course, Dolly Parton. Parton's cover was recorded and released on her album entitled, The Grass is Blue, released in October of 1999.

Probably my favorite version of this ballad. She has this trademark warmth and delicacy that she brings to so many ballads like Jolene and I Will Always Love You. The Baez version sounds shrill by comparison, the tone is too high and the voice too thin for the material.
