DJ JS-1 - Ground Original 2: No Sell Out (2009)

Queens-born DJ JS-1 has been making music for more than a decade with the world famous Rock Steady Crew. Serving as occasional DJ for KRS-One and crew mate with Rahzel, DJ JS-1's second full length album is a who's who of hip hop. Guests include Large Professor, KRS-One, Canibus, CL Smooth, Brother Ali, Sadat X, Aesop Rock, C Rayz Walz, Vast Aire, Pharoahe Monch, Copywrite, Ill Bill, Virtuoso, Slaine, Vinnie Paz, Pumpkinhead, Block McCloud, J-Live, Masta Ace, Wordsworth, Kool Keith, Prince Po, Common and that isn't even half the guests.
The vocalists range in clout, age, and style. The album's first single "Nuthin" teams up two old school cats Sadat X from Brand Nubian and former Pete Rock partner C.L. Smooth with underground sensation Brother Ali. The combination makes for an interesting dynamic, but its DJ JS-1's playful sampling of his frequent tourmate KRS-One that brings the whole track together.
Other tracks just pair together the best of a generation like "Karma Killaz" which features Aesop Rock, C Rayz Walz, and Vast Aire. The three emcees have been stalwarts of the underground hip hop scene for over a decade now and DJ JS-1 give them a great raw beat for them to showcase their skills over. Each rapper attacks the beat in a different way, making the track a must listen for any rap fan.Its hard to dispute an album that brings together this much talent; the only way an album like this can be bad is if the talent is somehow squandered with frivolous song topics. But each emcee on the album is so strong and unique that they almost all come through with something worthwhile for DJ JS-1.
