einer der schönsten englischsprachigen sätze die ich jemals lesen, bzw. hören durfte. nicht wegen des inhalts, sondern wegen der schönheit des klangs:"But dehumanizing the victim makes things simplerIt's like breathing with a respiratorIt eases the conscience of even the most consciousAnd calculating violator"

But dehumanizing the victim makes things simplerIt's like breathing with a respiratorIt eases the conscience of even the most consciousAnd calculating violatorWords can reduce a person to an objectSomething more easy to hateAn inanimate entity, completely disposableNo problem to obliterate*******Fits the current Israel/Palestine tragedy. Both sides do this.

Pop Kills Quality, Quality kills popularity. Sad verity for us. So Pull the trigger and see what happen .. or still listen good music everybody ..

Whenever someone tells me they don't like rap, I always tell them to listen to this album: to my mind, THE quintessential rap album, with this one THE quintessential rap song. 20+ years later, this sucker still puts tears in my eyes-- the ONLY rap song that's ever been able to do that--from the brilliant urban poetry of its lyrics to its uncannily haunting beat/sampling. Bravo, Michael Franti, for this stark, grim, BEAUTIFULLY radio unfriendly piece of work that hits the gang violence nail on the head! Too bad DH had only one incarnation, as Spearhead is but a pale shadow of this--but I realize you also gotta eat!

this is the quintessential marriage of political awareness and music.. no-one has even come close to the complexity and artistry of DHOH

Michael Franti and Greydon Square are my fucking heroes. And neither are disposable, lol.

the message was always powerful, but the production and delivery were kind of average. And none of their songs were particularly catchy the way say, Public Enemy's were.

"you wont see the face till the eye lids drop". Always gets me. I always imagine a bully who pushed too far and in the heat of the moment didn't notice what he just did to a human until it was too late.

If that mother is like me she will like Lyfe Jennings. If you can tolerate obscene language and the occasional racist statement, even Tupac Shakur can be a tremendous source of inspiration.

And, to those who are wondering what happened to this cat: Michael is still going strong. I just saw him in Seattle at a sold out show. They are called: Michael Franti and Spearhead. See them whenever they are in your town. They tour constantly and it is the most fulfilling show you will ever experience. Love, love, love Michael.

I played this in 1992 in my college Ethos Musicology class. During the song I saw a few young men wipe their eyes. Afterwards a mother came up to me and said she couldn't stand her son's rap music, but this song opened her eyes to rap; and she was going to take time to listen to his music. A young man came up to me and said he is in a band and wants to play music like this song, music that matters. Thank you Michael Franti and friends.
