It has been so long since I've heard this song. I had a little key chain as a kid with a small radio and this song on a little part of the key chain that you could just insert it into the radio and it would play the song. Supposedly there were more key chains with different songs you could put into it, but I only ever had the one. I played this song non-stop until I knew the lyrics by heart, and I'm happily surprised that I still remember them after all these years. One day my sister borrowed it and lost it, and I was truly sad since I didn't even know the artist's name or if I could ever find the song again. After all, while I was able to play games on the computer, I didn't know that google existed, and since then I completely forgot about it. I ran into a video that used this song and it all just sprung back. If there was a song that could ever bring me back to my childhood, it would be this one. That, and the Teen Titans theme song. What I found truly interesting is that although I knew the lyrics, I didn't investigate them (thanks, A.P. Lit.) and actually reading the lyrics now forms a very strong message, similar to Paparazzi by Lady Gaga. "It doesn't matter about the clothes I wear and where I go and why." Children commonly ask for "fame and fortune." Fortune I wouldn't mind, but fame? The inability to go to the supermarket or go shopping without being berated with unending idiotic questions, the fear of stalkers and people grossly infatuated with you, fear for your family with the knowledge that any children you have or anyone related you has become a target for those who would abduct them and extort money out of you to have them returned safe, the list goes on. Some of them know what they sign on for, like Angelina Jolie. But her and her husband (I think they're still married, anyway, I don't really keep up) make an excellent point in saying that their children didn't sign up for the flashing lights of cameras that they see each time they leave the house, and there is nothing set in place to protect children of stars, as is granted the Paparazzi's right by the Bill of Rights. I personally just think it funny that these words were said long ago, and we progressed and became worse with infatuation with stars, more due to advances in technology and the ability to access information. I'm not sure where I was going with this memory-lane-turned-social-whining, but there you go.
