This song is not as well known in the UK as Dion's two top twenty hits - Runaround Sue and The Wanderer. He wrote it about his wife, Susan. The track was covered in the sixties by the Alan Bown Set and in the seventies by The Bunch (with Sandy Denny). Dion is one of the Beatles' "heroes" who appear on the front of the Sgt Pepper album.

I recently remembered this song from my younger days. It was covered on Fairport Chronicles by Fairport Convention. Sandy Denny didn't sing it, but it was great and made a lasting impression. I was unable to find that version online in any medium except vinyl, so I am now the proud owner of a new record player. I like Dion's version as well .....another vinyl search coming up....LOL

Yet Sandy does outstanding backup vocals along with Linda Peters-thompson on the Dion song. Maybe you were thinking about that.

Of course, it's a guy singing on the Bunch version. I was thinking of Learning the Game which was the other standout tune on the Bunch lp.

Sandy doesn't sing it. Richard Thompson sings it. But sings lead on a lot of other good songs on that album, and also backs up Linda T.

Just for accuracy's sake (sorry to be that guy), this is by Dion and the Belmonts.

The lead vocal was by Richard Thompson. I agree with you otherwise.

Greatest pop song ever-thanks! Correction though..That is not Dion on the cover, it surfer, Randy Nauert. Nice thought, though!

The Bunch's version is the best with Sandy Denny on vocals. It was reissued on CD over in the UK with bonus cuts. Never heard this one by Dion until recently.

Thanks for posting this, I always wanted to hear it after hearing the The Bunch do it in the early 70s. Always though they had arranged it out the whazoo, but hearing this they pretty much just copied it. Didn't the Belmonts do a version too?

this is one of the great singles of the sixties. Swamped by British rock at the time, but this guy was/is an all time great. The song is his own - I bought the record when it came out on ABC paramount around 1966 with another great track Berimbau on the flip. Probably my most played single and I had some really great one's. One day people will get wise to this great record.

This guy is one of the last men standing from the days of rock & roll. He's 70+ and is still out there strutting his stuff, wish he would get over to the U.K here for a few gigs before he calls it a day he has a massive underground fan base here,. I have been a fan of his for over 35yrs since I was 13 or so I am proud to say. keep on rockin Mr DiMucci!!!
