I personally think it's not THAT hard, the hard thing is the double bass pedal. If you practice it I think you could get it. But it's my opinion I'm not even a drummer, it's what I hear.

In response to your first point, I can hear inconsistencies in this, so he obviously didn't.. As far as 2 goes, well yeah, that's the intended purpose and point of using triggers

actually: 1. Triggers can be used to convert drum hits into MIDI, which can then be moved in time after the recording 2. Triggers can be and are almost always pre-set to a constant level, meaning that no matter how soft the drummer plays, it will always sound the exact same volume. Either one of those uses can make it a lot easier, and make the drummer sound alot better than they are. For all we know, any drummer using triggers could just be twitching their ankles and people think theyre awesome
