Back in the 1970s and well into the '80s, WNIC-FM radio DJ ALAN ALMOND hosted a "quiet storm" show called "PILLOW TALK." He would sign off every show at midnight by playing Kool & the Gang song "Summer Madness" and talking over it. Thankfully, I was able to nab this clip from "Detroit Radio Flashbacks" before the page mysteriously went down. It's a classic Alan Almond sign-off. Enjoy*

So long Alan! Hard to believe he's gone on! Alan Almond and the Electrifying Mojo were to me, the kings of FM late night FM signal radio in Detroit! No one played any better love songs than Alan! No other radio DJ in america had a better voice build for radio! If you had to stay in on a weekday night, and the television played the same ole' reruns, Alan was there on WNIC, and then at one point, WOMC to set a mood! The last of my FM radio heroes has now left the building! And now I have to play a song that signature'ed the way Alan would sign off the air, every night at midnight by playing this song by Kool and the Gang. "Summer Madness!"RIP Alan Almond, my tall scruffy friend! Radio has not been the since you signed off! And now ladies, as Alan use to say most every night in closing. "Goodnight, and sweet dreams angel!" That is so cool!

While I always beat his ratings in the 70's at WCZY-FM (Cozy-FM) I always had a great respect for my competitor Alan. He was a true pro and will be missed by everyone in the broadcast community. Have a good sleep Alan, rest well old friend! - Bob Martin

Alan Almond passed away today from a massive heart attack. I grew up in Pontiac, Michigan. About 30 miles northwest of Detroit. I grew up a rock and roller. My friends would have blasted me if they knew I listened to Alan at night. But I did. I hadn't thought about him in a very long time until today when I heard he had passed away. I would not think that it would even have an effect on me. But it did. I am very sad. It brought back memories of myself as a teenager trying to figure this thing out we call love. In the last 27 years I have been with the same woman. I respect all woman. Especially my mother and my wife. Of course my dad had a lot to do with this but all of sudden I wonder how much Alan had to do with it too? Respect, kindness, love, sincerity, romance, gentleness, passion. This is what he taught. Goodbye and thank you my friend.

My freshman roommate and I would listen to Alan every night! As a "gift" our friends had Alan say one night, "For those of you in the lounge tonight, Beth and Lynette, Room 3317, South Quad, U of M, woo, woo, have one for me." Had it on tape for years and would listen to it!
