*On this day:**At 27th may of 1988, Def Leppard kicked off the third leg of their North American Hysteria world tour at George M. Sullivan Arena, Anchorage, Alaska.*The rockers from Sheffield began life as Rick Savage on bass, Pete Willis on guitar and Joe Elliott on vocals. Following guitarist Steve Clark joining the band in 1978, they released their first EP ‘Getcha Rocks Off’ and managed to pick up airplay on the BBC. Drummer Rick Allen completed the line up and, after being taken under the wing of AC/DC's manager Petter Mensch, the band released their first LP – ‘On Through the Night’ in 1980.The next couple of years saw the band tour extensively and play support act for such huge US acts as Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest. The band’s next album ‘High 'n' Dry’ became the group's first platinum album in the United States. Thanks to the launch of MTV, the 1983 album ‘Pyromania’ was a huge hit. Touring commitments and problems recording the next album led to a delay of four years before ‘Hysteria’ was released. "Hysteria" was released on August 3, 1987. It is the band's best-selling album to date, selling over 20 million copies worldwide, and spawning seven hit singles: "Women" , "Animal" , "Hysteria" , "Pour Some Sugar on Me" , "Love Bites" , "Armageddon It" , and "Rocket". It also remained on the US charts for three years. To promote the album, the band embarked on the 'Hysteria World Tour.' This was the first tour with drummer Rick Allen since his car accident on 31 December 1984 when he lost his left arm and Allen returned using a custom designed electronic drum set. It was also the last tour to feature guitarist Steve Clark before his death on 8 January 1991 from alcoholism and a combination of prescription drugs and painkillers. The first show took place at the SFX Hall in Dublin, Ireland at 24th June of 1987 and was the start of a 17 date sold-out UK and Irish tour. In the last show in Washington, the band played a lengthy set which included the rarely played 'Billy's Got A Gun' and 'Don't Shoot Shotgun' - played for the very first time. With more than 65 million albums sold worldwide and two prestigious Diamond Awards to their credit, Def Leppard, continue to be one of the most important forces in rock music.#DefLeppard #80sMusic#HardRock #GlamMetal#Rock #Hysteria#Music #OS4L
