Deanna Durbin performs the Scottish folk song which was probably composed in the 1700s. This clip comes from the 1940 movie "It's a Date", filmed when Durbin was 18.

By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes

Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond

Where me and my true love were ever wont to gae

On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond.

O you'll tak' the high road and I'll tak' the low road

And I'll be in Scotland afore ye

For me and my true love will ne-er meet again

On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond.

'Twas there that we parted in yon shady glen

On the steep, steep sides o' Ben Lomond

Where deep in purple hue, the hieland hills we view

And the moon comin' out in the gloamin'.

What a sublime moment! Way beyond the capacity of present singers with they're phony emotions.

Deanna Durbin`s singing is untouchable. One does not hear this kind of talent today.

Beautiful, beautiful! In my opinion, the generation of the second world war was not only the greatest generation, but the very last. After them, everything has been destroyed. Deanna Durbin had both tecnique and emotion. Singers of today have no tecnique and only fake emotion.

My 94 year old dad told me he remembers when he was a child and he and his family used to listen to Ms. Durbin on the radio. They just loved her.

The stability and purity of tone of her voice throughout its range. The innocence and authority of her interpretation, astonishing for an 18 year old. It floods the mind with its beauty and melancholy.

We all put Deanna on the back burner these days; however, such a wonderful actress and singer, above all, should never be tucked away. Her version of 'Danny Boy' is one of the finest I have ever heard. Thank you for posting these.

ロクローモンド懐かしい曲です。高校の頃音楽の時間に習いました。日本の誰かが作曲した「5番街のマリーへ」メロディーが大変似ています。多分この曲が心の中にあったのでしょう。

Frankly one of the greatest folk songs of all time...on the vocal front: just been gushing on Deanna's version of 'Danny Boy' so won't repeat...but the love & compassion for the subject matter in her interpretation of the song is just so moving & inspiring for modern singers...all round marvellous, thanks for posting!

I am trying to learn the song in the ukulele. Which is a very happy instrument for such a sad song. But is the only one I know how to play. Deanna plays with such feeling that I get the sadness I show be playing with. Thanks for sharing.

I loved it, we need more of this, the musics of the present don't have so "soul in music", emotion =)
