Well, you definitelly got into it; i hated Malmsteen's "Rising Force"; through youtube, I've started to appreciate him a lot more. RacerX was another I didn't get around to checking out till about a year ago; i bought all their stuff and find it pretty interesting good stuff!

I had this Chastain album and Masi Attack Of The Neon Shark both nice. But loved Rising Force, Marching Out,Trilogy and Speed Metal Symphony the most out of my collection. and Mind Eye

Well.Amazon.com has every CD by Chastain.And Since you mentioned Blues.Check out Southern Gentleman and Georgia Blues Dawgs.Chastain plays guitar on those too.

another that got lost in the shuffle was Alex Masi. I had heard of Chastain, but never did buy an album or explore him; i just now got around to buying all of RacerX! I went down a bluespath; i'm still trying to get my hands on all the good blues I've found!

@Envenomed69 Because he dose'nt kiss ass.He has been offered countless lead guitar positions(most notably the late Ronnie James Dio offered him the lead guitar spot after Vivian Campbell quit/fired) There were so many great instrumental recordings in the late 80's(Satriani's "Surfing". MacAlpine's "Maximum Security") This one unfortunately got lost in the shuffle.

@Rhythmicons The keyboards are Kurzweil,there are no transcriptions for this album Although i do know a good friend of mine,whose name is Jason Cate,did transcribe this entire album(he's a Berklee grad...DUH!!).I don't know if he posted it online though.

It's Thijs Van Leer, and he plays piano and keys. He's a VERY skilled musician, but he's not exactly comparable with Chastain...apples and oranges. It's like saying Rick Wakeman is better than Eddie Van Halen, or Joe Pass is better than Patrick Moraz.

Instrumental Variations is pound for pound the greatest Instrumental Guitar Album of all time. Yes Satch and Vai released some songs as good as or better over their many albums, but every song on this 36 minute CD is Shredding Gold!! My favorite is 18th Century Inamorata. The lead guitar in that one is chilling. Waaaaaaay better than many solos that made the Guitar World 100 Greatest Solos list. Every song on this CD could/should bump at least 10 songs from that list. Chastain Kills on this one!
