Great scene in a good whodunnit/disaster movie. In the low countries (Belgium and The Netherlands) this scene was cut out because they tought it would be too controversial and too political. But a like it, it gives a cynic and funny note in a rather serious movie.

The soundtrack album has the short versions of this song (Minus robert clary) and the newsreel intro was shortened and the music and narration edited. I remember being a little disappointed about both issues on the album. I was also hoping for the german band music in the departure scenes. great album.

In 1974, I must have seen this film a dozen times that summer. I also had the soundtrack album. The thing is, I knew the words to the song, but when the DVD came out, the verse about Mussolini was missing. It drove me nuts for years! I even convinced myself I had to be confusing it with a line from a different song. Maybe Tom Lehrer? Then I listened to this and there it was! I realized this is from the David Shire soundtrack, not the film. So thanks for putting my mind at ease, lol! A classic!

A delightful song denigrating the bloated Nazi ego...of racism, Aryan purity, Tea Party types...many frustrated people. The good people will overflow and drown their hatefulness. Loved Robert Clary, a survivor of the Death Camps performing in this song showing the clown-like mentality of Nazi/KKK/Tea Party types. Their motivations have NOTHING to do with Democracy. Let's hope our answer to them is in time. Peace.

The film's conceit and working thesis, that it was an inside job, that Germans wanted to stop Hitler, is...aw, shucks, nice. But Le Beau, from Hogans Heroes, is heroic as the Jimmy Durante co-signing co-singer on this one. What orthodoxy has done to America is a crime. There's a lot to be said for the Nazis. And I hope it's said in time!
