by the way, there is a old Broadway saying that there would be no show business if it wasn't for Jews, Gypsies (the chorus dancers in musicals) and gays (only in the old days that wasn't the word they used) If you know anything about the history of show business you will know this is absolutely true.

Love this! Dear Mrcantthinkofanme55: When they were first casting for Frasier they wanted to hire someone to play an accountant for one the episodes before it was aired. DHP showed up for the casting call. The director was astonished at how much he looked like Grammar. They were really impressed with his audition so much so they wrote the part of Niles into the show (it wasn't there before) just for him. There was never going to be any brother in the show. The rest is history.

I love how there is a 6 minute song devoted to a single joke that there are a lot of jews on broadway haha.

I'm playing Sir Robin in my high schools musical and I'm so nervous. I don't think I can pass as a guy and my voice isn't that great. It's such an amazing show and the song is hilarious I just want to do it justice.

Amazing the detail, I saw it and the first time the HEY came in I didn't get it. In England the problem is with so many Arabs they could not do it with JEWS.. I still don't get how they had to change most of the lyrics cuz they should take out, kosher, goyim, shikse, papa can you hear me.. it looses all the fun stuff..

David Hyde Pierce kind of looks like Kelsey Grammer.

Honestly one of my favourite songs in a musical of all time. Nothing makes me cry laughing harder than this show! Brilliant.

I managed to see this show with nearly the whole original cast (Hank Azarkia was replaced with Alan Tudyk by then, so still a pretty good trade) and it was incredible. David Hyde Pierce was fantastic in this number. Whole audience was howling with laughter, including myself.

Agree they should never have dropped it! When it was on Shaftesbury avenue it still had 'jews' but it became 'stars' when they went on tour. You lose the opportunity for Patsy to say 'it's not the sort of thing you admit to a heavily armed christian' at the end!

I think this is the best number in Spamalot; I heard when they took it to Britain they changed it to something like 'you won't succeed on Broadway if you don't have any stars?" or something like that. Doesn't have the same joke factor. I guess they thought the Brits wouldn't know how many jewish people work on Broadway?? I live in Canada and I know that!!

Just saw this in Montana, absolutely killing. One reason a song about Jews is so funny is the transgressive nature of it. Like when David Sedaris said that NPR is a Jewish conspiracy. And there's enough truth in it to make it really strike home.

i'm Jewish and I love this number. I think French people have more reason to be offended by Spamalot than Jewish people!

Those aren't nuns, they're the young, nubile and spankhappy virgins of Castle Antrhax (the castle with the grailshaped beacon). Don't ask - go see 'Monthy Python and the Holy Grail' and all will be made clear. (and yes, I agree, the 'hay!' bit is hilarious!)
