I went into the Tower Records store at El Toro and Rockland one time, just to pick up something "New" and they had this on the stereo. I was already a fan of Bowie, but, holy crap, is this some great music or what?

My favourite Bowie album! My interpretation of the song is of a leader giving his nation a superfluous,utopian-type lifestyle (the saviour machine),and in turn by the human nature of society,people became complacent,selfish,negative...and in time the leader saw how his dream became a nightmare,turning him into a maniacal being that despises all that he created,and all who followed! Very Orwellian!
