Everything is perfect in this video. I can say this is one of my favorite recordings of all time. I try, but can't explain the feelings i get while watching, listening it. Been Dave's fan since the Coen brothers movie has been out. Listening him breathing at the beginning of the video and thinking about all the cigarette smokes that he tried to bury his sadness in and imagining young him practicing his amazing fingerstyle techniques somewhere in 70's NY. There's his humble brief smile right before he starts singing and there is probably a loving daddy who's shushing his little baby, and then Daves breathing again, and the way he pronounces words ... I can write endlessly, but seriously, this video is one of the most exact definitions of real love for me, even camera angle and bad sound recording makes you feel like you're here and feeling all this energy inside your body and soul. Huh, God, i love this...

I once saw DVR and he introduced "He Was a Friend of Mine" as " A song I stole from Bob Dylan who stole it from me."

As I was saying 3 months ago... Dave Van Ronk said, " I don't play in Rhode Island very much as. Paul Geremia (I long time friend of mine) basically has that scene all tied up..." though I didn't agree with what Dave had said that's what he said... Someone seems to have tampered with my original comment ergo: I've now completed it.... BTW Paul and I grew up In Johnston RI... And both left in our teens.

wow! you just made me remember a DVR show I saw back in '97 or so. It was in Providence called 'the stone soup cafe' I think.. and I'm sure Paul Geramia opened for him!

Like many others, i'd catch Dave Van Ronk whenever he stumbled through the Rhode Island scene... The last time we talked was standing in the rain outside Tri-Works in New Bedford Mass... during one of his performances... we stood there (at the time I was still a smoker) and we stood there chatting on the curb chain smoking in the freezing night... He said he didn't visit Rhode Island much as Paul Geromia, (a long time friend of mine) "..untrue.
