I realized what makes Dave's playing so mesmerizing. In addition to him being Dave, it's because he is so damned unorthodox. So much so that he even looks weird and clumsy. Not to mention the crazy weird "chord shapes" he uses. Amazing.

I have a little theory on why people do tend to 'hate' on Dave and DMB in general. DMB is VERY popular. Top in US, if not world, in concert ticket sales from 2000 to 2009 (I haven't seen new stats yet), but top sales in those years being a nearly 20 yr old band?? That is crazy, and since DMB is the furthest thing to any official or familiar genre, it takes people a lot longer to develop a taste for them, therefore confusing the crap out of a lot of people as to how they are still so popular.haha

People love to hate on Dave's music and I don't understand! He's rockin the shit out of that guitar and groovin all over the place. That's what music is all about, he just feels it. A lotta bands stand up on stage and try n look cool, but dmb gets on stage and just flat out plaaaayyyyy.
