Dave (imo) has taken this further than anyone else in this genre. He has a lot more power than most with this technique...but the thing to remember is that Dave did not consciously work on it, and when I talked to him he didn't even know that what his left hand did was called "open/close or push/pull." It is an awesome technique though for sure! I love the sound and feeling of Dave's blasts because of it...hearing the up&down strokes on the old albums is so cool.

Hellhammer also uses this technique at when playing fast blast beats. Its hard to learn but it pays off - Although I am not sure if its exactly the same, I use a very similar technique and I can go up to 280bpm with it and its still very precise...

Yeah, it's not really a common technique, especially in metal. Another guy who uses it though would be Marthyn from Belphegor (he's a MACHINE). This isn't a very hard technique to learn, but if you ever get to the point where you're playing extremely fast with your fingers and find it's just a bit too intense (like 270-300 bpm) then this technique will help A LOT as it has a more defined pulse (since there's 2 motions) and uses rebound to your advantage.

Haha damn I've never seen that on the hands before!!!!! That's pretty legit, I just use regular technique when I blast but I can't get nearly this fast yet. It's still on the to do list!!!!!

That'd be the "open close" technique. Shit looks pretty cool, kinda sounds bad at anything but ridiculous speeds though... helps relieve repetitive strain on the fingers, almost like the swivel for the feet.

I like the little nose scratch at 0:53. Like it's nothing. Just stupid.

That's so gnarly how he blasts on the snare, like watch what his fingers do......

0:50 I like how he wipes his nose while playing and doesn't miss a beat.
