I’ve never seen these guys play their instruments, I question whether they really can. Great songs out of the Brill Building though.

Great song! Thanks. Stage can be a scary place when things fall off kilter. I know this well.

Ed Sullivan had a weird way of introducing acts. He looked like he was in a temper.

Dreadful band. Now that we are down to the Dave Clark Two I am "Glad All Over" !

Look at any video of that era and see how close they have to stand next to a mic. Here they're all over the place swaying backwards and forwards. That would present a nightmare for audio engineers. They probably mimed to a backing track. It was commonplace in those days. But we'll never know the truth.

Beatles didn't use backing tapes on Sullivan. Neither did Elvis, Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley... I could go on. The genius of Dave Clark was his entrepreneurial skills. He controlled it all, and owned it all. Ahead of his time in that Simon Cowell, Stock Akin & Waterman kind of way.

Session drummer Bobby Grahm played drums on all those DC5 hits and Dave Clark took credit for it. Shame on him.

I was 11 years old in 1964. I was a DC5 fan then, and I still am a fan of theirs. Mike Smith would sometimes sing live, and Dave Clark would sometimes play live. The rest, I don't think was live. I am a drummer, and to those who think Dave Clark wasn't a good drummer, try playing drums to DC 5 songs. Good luck, mate. All of the members of the DC5 were note-reading, truly professional musicians. Those who saw them live in concert all attest to how they could sound just like they did on vinyl. Mike Smith was even a classically-trained pianist, as well as one of the all-time great rock/soul singers. Don't be so sarcastic to what might be another era of music, please. Thank you.

The next tune Come Home was shortened to make up for time lost here. A slick bit of TV stage craft from a group that probably played more live performances than any in their era.

Ed Sullivan has all the charisma of a cold dead fish. How did he ever get to present a variety show?

Dave Clark cannot play the drums. He was a business man first, a musician....well never really.

The truth of the matter is that most all groups did this on variety show performances back then. A backing track with their music, minus the vocals was played for the group to sing to (and act like they're playing). Nonetheless, I cringe when I watch this because I really like the DC Five, and hate that this happened to them. By the way, as you probably already know, they really ARE great live!

Why does it go really loud when he hits the Ride cymbal ? Is the mic picking it up

1-2-3-4... 1-2-3-4... how sad! Mike looks really upset in the beginning.
