Love how easy Daray makes this look, especially at 2:52 to 4:02 - effortless is the word you're looking for :)

What you are hearing is the stage volume picked up by a crappy video camera, not the FOH mix that everyone in the crowd hears with everything in it. Believe me, the crowd hears the kick nice and clear otherwise it would be pointless.Triggers. Yes many metal bands use them but not always. I loved using them because it allowed for me to play softer at greater speeds without sacrificing the "punch" of a heavy footed strike. Some bands like Fear Factory use them as a matter of course, some do not. The way of getting around the dynamics issue is if you have a good audio engineer that uses compression correctly. It can make rim shots and ghost notes both come through clearly, same with kick notes.I'd bet they use triggers here, Nick Barker was a beast but his kick notes sounded a bit "too perfect at times. Just sayin' though, you can have a good sounding live show without them.

Ehm, Slayers songs is just as fast if not more fast than most of these dimmu borgir songs. they just use diffrent elements. for example blast beats are used in dimmu borgir, but it doesnt make the song faster than a slayer song :) but i agree that the kick drums would sound horrible without triggers in this type of music.

Amazing sounding Pearl MMP's. I especially like that low-end bass drum tuning and high pitched snare.

Bullshit to asinine. Kollias was clocked with the worlds fastest feet! He can play over 300 bpm, he actually told me he can play 280 bpm for up to 4 hours

The fastest Slayer song is still slower than the speeds *death* metal drummers play it, which is why they use triggers. The kick drums in this song would sound like mud if they went with mics instead of triggers.

It comes down to physics of drums as well. When you get past a certain speed, depending on the size of the drum, it cannot breathe properly. Often drummers cut holes in the resonant head to help with adequate air return. No air means less sound. If the rest of the band cannot hear you, they have little reference of time. Triggers avoid this all together because they only require a vibration. Playing fast is totally doable without triggers, but the quality of sound is lost with faster speeds.

HellHammer and Inferno are faster than Kollias and they have more stamina and endurance; especially Inferno.

Thankyou for clearing that up for everyone!

Probably this comment is misunderstood by many people... The most common thing is, that the band (at least the drummer) plays with in-ear-monitors. Just to make it clear: the backing track usually contains only the orchestral elements, maybe additional vocals and of course a clicktrack for the drummer. Guitars and Drums are still played live, so the performance is a mixture of playback and live elements.
