If he hadn't been so discouraged about his career and the fact that all the great guitarplayers bowed down to him but the public didn't care, he'd still be with us. Same withRoy Buchanan. Funny that they came from the same area (Baltimore and D.C.) and met the same end. Danny idolized Roy and maybe he figured if Roy couldn't make thebig time, he never would either. What's ironic is if both of them had just hung in therea bit longer, they'd be huge now and widely acknowledged as the masters they were.Breathtaking musicians. I'm sure depression and alcohol/drugs won the battles.

The amp he's using is a custom DOESN'T MATTER. You can't buy what he's got at Guitar Center.

Looks like a Deluxe Reverb to me. Three knobs and six. You can see it at 2:05.

at normal speed he's not doubling the finger part but when he explains it slowly he does double the finger part... doing syncopated things slowly is such a totally different thing, probably he was just quickly working it out and didn't realize even... my ocd went off the chart :) had to re-watch a bunch of times to make sure....because, you know....danny gatton...

Guitar player magazine had an issue "Unknown Greats" that had a tear out sheet record--it was Danny doing what he does best playing his ass off--I was an instant fan--I have never stopped singing his praises--pulled me out of a playing slump--truly a sad loss to the music world in his tragic demise--RIP Dan--eternally grateful

Well, your echo gadget dies, so you double pick it. Yeah, you just do it. Makes it seem so easy.

Best travis picking teacher I've seen so far. But while he do the the double picking, I wonder if he only doubles the pick punches or if I also doubles with the fingers?

Most of It is when you've practiced it enough to get into the mindset of the style and your fingers naturally go there..Some of it's just impossible unless you practice banjo rolls till u'r 90.. Danny was the best rockabilly picker ever imo!! Pissed all over Setzer enough for him to nick what he could manage...
