1971 - Crosby, Stills Nash & Young's live album "Four Way Street" was certified gold by the RIAA. Not bad when you think that it had only been released on 7 April 1971.#dapimusic #mymusichangout #hardrock #folkrck #CrosbyStillsNashandYoung #onthisday #onthisdate

Love it! Thanks for posting! I agree with most posters Neil has more talent in his little finger then the rest combined.

Every year in Northern California NY puts together a BRIDGE concert that benefits extremely disabled children who are introduced early in the show. A ton of great artists perform and it is wonderful to see the jams and the covers different artists play. Of course Melissa Etheridge rocked when she did some Led Zepplin.

Alright, I will add my two cents... Neil is more prolific than CSN-He had a huge run from like 66-79 (though some albums were a little uneven (self-titled, Goldrush, Harvest) though I don't care a whole lot for Live Rust compared to everything before in that era, and his bad stuff is not as bad as some of CSN's worst EVER,. He also has periodically had good stuff in each subsequent decade 80s-today, and I consider myself a pretty huge CSN fan. However, today CSN doesn't get much credit. Most of the Crosby/Nash albums were great (case in point, Wind on the Water), I even thought the one that came out ten years ago was great. Croz's IICORMN is a huge classic-like Croz with the Dead not to mention all the unreleased stuff from Planet Earth Rock n Roll Orchestra. Plus Croz wrote some great songs while in the Byrds that many younger people don't know about (Everybody's Been Burned, Strange Gathering, Lady Friend, Dolphin's Smile, It Happens Each Day, Why?), CPR also had some cool tracks, and showed Crosby could still do something and don't forget Nash's only not crappy songs with the Hollies (Butterfly, Maker, Postcard, I'm forgetting one), as well as Songs for Beginners. His released solo output since usually has a few good tracks (Chelsea Hotel, Magical Child, Out on the Island), Plus CSN had some great albums (the first, two, I happen to like the 70s album, and assorted tracks from the later LPs, though they are all very uneven. They also ALL have some great unreleased stuff from the 70s on, and some earlier unreleased gems that most people don't even know about (e.g. unreleased version of Lee Shore, How Have You Been, Everybody's Talkin, Blackbird, Taken At All, Homeward Through the Haze). Stills has had some good albums (Manassas, first solo album, Stills Alone, Man Alive was pretty good), plus he often pulls off some good tracks here and there throughout his career, though he's had some huge duds (Illegal Stills, Right By You). His recording quality definitely droppped. His Buffalo Springfield songs are some of his best though (too many to name, but Bluebird, Hung Upside Down, Questions, Special Care, For What Its Worth, Rock N Roll Woman, etc. plus his guitar playing on a lot of the songs was great), and I think Neil brings out a lot in his playing (check Buffalo Springfield reunion at Bonnaroo, the solos they trade on Bluebird, for example).

AJ, well put. And where was I when you were an exec? :) I meet the wrong people. I bet you had many hounding you for favors no doubt. Your point is well said and taken. Style has much to do with it and yes, Young is a more complete player than Stills. All around. Stills had a sound that was cool and a great voice. All of them offer a talent that will ring through music history. Peace. If you ever get that Exec gig back..ah..you have my contact..and ah..tickets..ah..

I was an exec with Universal Music in the late 90s and I got great seats to see CSNY at the new Staples Center in LA; I always admired Stills but truthfully Neil Young's guitar playing stole the show esp. on Southern Man and Woodstock, much like the Eagles tours became Joe Walsh and the other guys, both of these artists are so talented they overwhelm their co-performers

My question is who plays the lead on the studio recording on the album-- Nowhere. That has fantastic lead work. In his life performance Neil Y definitely uses the perfect acoustic unplugged style. Stills has been with Graham from the beginning he could have been pushy, but at the time they got together. Love and sharing was the theme and what they did that night in August 1969 was something fabulous!

You nailed it. Even Crosby said in an interview, "I wished I had his (Neil) talent and gift for song writing. He has so many songs, I'm jealous." As for guitarists, Still's was great. An ass kicker. I personally don't see any point in arguing guitar skills. Everyone is different, that's all. CSNY are all great musicians. As a solo comparison, it's no secret Neil passed them all. Young was a poet. A gifted writer. End of the day, lyrics reach the human heart but I'm a big fan of Still's guitar.
