Nah, I don't think Crass are making any obvious point about Oi and racism. What this song is about is the fucking mindless stupidity of the Oi movement that was really the final nail in the coffin for Punk. All the "I'm a working class geezer from the east end, West Ham and nights spent down the same old boozer" cliches Crass found exasperating as a band inspired by the possibilities of punk from it's initial spark in the UK being turned into something so stupidly reductive. Read the lyrics "It's the greatest working class rip off"...the bands ripped themselves off and they ripped their fans off by selling them short too. This song is just a sigh. A sigh at how pathetic punk was becoming. Remember Crass had already penned years earlier the song Punk is Dead. In Oi the idea of punk as a revolutionary movement was dead indeed, dead as a dodo. 10 years назад

I've heard people call Crass "shit" and "awful noise", but they're not really hearing it. Its not just the music, the words and meaning is what matters, the lyrical content is ingenious and poetic. Another thing I've noticed is that the comments on these videos aren't dumbass 11 year old "daddy won't buy me an ipad" "anarchists", but instead intelligent people with open minded opinions and philosophies, who aren't blind followers or ignorants. I can see difficulties with both methods. I think it'd be hard to abolish something as deeply seated as capitalism without centralised force and I'd sooner vote for the Liberal Democrats than any Marxist party. Lib Dems and Marxists rarely get power but when they do it's far easier to get rid of a Lib Dem than a Marxist. Maybe I'm looking at Marxism in relation to Stalinism, but states don't tend to give up power very readily. Both require changes at all layers of life before the end goal.12 years назад

I see what you're trying to say, but anarchism not only wishes to abolish not only the state, but other coercive institutions like capitalism. Basically anything that promotes a hierarchical power structure. Anarchists and Marxists largely have the same conception of a future society, a stateless and classless one.
