I'll admit that Converge was hard for me to get into. Mostly due to the absolute inability to understand or sometimes hear the vocals combined with the complete, off the wall, instrumentals. After reading the lyrics with the music, though, my eyes are open to the huge creativity and aggression that they possess in their material. It's like I understand them now. Now I just want to dig into them even more.

So many stupid comments here. Music most certainly does not need to be technical to be good. Bands that are technical (provided they aren't "layman technical") definitely deserve the respect. It does not matter what genre a band falls under. Converge is one of the most talented bands alive right now and you have no scope of the music industry if you disagree.

I really do not want to start another argument, but Ben Dover...Fuck You! Converge and Dillinger are fucking amazing bands, along with Alive Or Just Breathing era Killswitch, Shai Hulud, and Between the Buried and Me. I don't rep metalcore but I love and respect certain bands, ESPECIALLY those....

the outro of "Last Light" when they do that song live is absolutely stunning. it just gets faster and faster, until you're faced with a breakneck speed. and with a riff like that, that's no easy thing. it's gigantic, unreal to see.

This IS metalcore, the mainstream stuff that is today labeled as "metalcore" is mostly some melodic stuff with scream/clean vocals where only breakdowns are the last trace of hardcore to be found, while this is exactly what metalcore is supposed to be - a hybrid between hardcore punk and metal.

I think this is pure poetry happening. Of course they're referring to only survivors, but they chose "soul survivors" to talk about something separate, meaning those who survive having a soul. Having that as the lyric is beautiful and devastating.
