I put a capo at the first fret, but I'm not sure if they used a capo or tuned up or just played it in F.

Back in 1963 Keith would have played guitar as Brian played harmonica on this record. The Stones did perform a live recording for the BBC and it sounds much better than the studio record in my opinion. I like your guitar playing.

Nice cover, It's obvious Keith didn't use a capo though, he was just barring an F chord, I've seen some old comments saying that using a capo in those early days was his way of experimenting before using open tunings. That's just insulting to Keith, he wasn't stupid, and I doubt they ever used a capo in 1963, if there was open tunings it was Brian.Sorry for going on a rant but it's ridiculous what some people say.

I knew he didn't use an open tuning, I was just making a point about how a lot of songs used a capo (not necessarily this one, but in general) when not really needed, and how that was maybe his way of experimenting before he learned the open tunings. He may have played it without a capo on RSG (did they even play or just live vocals?) but it doesn't mean he's only played it that way. Keith played JJF in standard on R&R Circus for instance. As for this song, just a matter of preference I guess

I don't know how they played it, but for what it's worth the "Singles Collection" tab book (which is decent, but like all tab books, imperfect) shows playing in F. I like your way better though. If I had to bet, I'd say they played it with the capo like you. They seemed to play with capos a lot in the early days, even when completely unnecessary. I guess that's the way Keith experimented before he learned open tunings. Thanks for the vid, was having a hard time getting the rhythm right.
