After listening to Cock Sparrer's two groundbreaking oi songs, thought it would be good to see what the band looked like in 1977. This is most likely a promo for the A side of Chip On My Shoulder and is the only video I've seen of the band in their first year of recording. Cock Sparrer is actually one of the better singing oi groups (not that good singing really matters that much in oi music) and here the boys cover a famous Rolling Stones single from Aug. 1967. At that time the authorities England were out to get the Stones and Jagger and Richards were jailed for drugs (the charges were later dismissed) When they were released they cut We Love You, either a thank you to their loyal fans, or more likely a sarcastic "fuck you" to the powers in charge. So if you're going to cover a classic this is a perfect choice for a skinhead street band like Cock Sparrer. Here it's quite obvious when the boys sing "We love you" they really mean "We don't give a shit about you." A very important band--the originators of oi.
