This performance is taken from a full 90-minute live show that I did with Atom Willard (drummer from my favorite band, Angels & Airwaves), and it was recorded on the 8th of July 2011. Check out the full show, including drum jam and interview, here: http://bit.ly/p20Ddu

No drum replacement or triggering was done in this mix, what you hear is a 100% acoustically recorded and mixed track.

The trolls have been debating the definition of a "cover" since I started my YouTube channel (do you have to copy the song note for note? do you have to change it up?) so doing a "cover" as a duet with the drummer who actually wrote and recorded the original track.. confusion.

Either way.. this was one of the raddest days of my life so far, and most assuredly one of the highlights of my drumming experience. I got to hang out with Atom, who is such an incredibly rad and down-to-earth dude, and I got to jam this song with him.

I don't need to build this up a lot.. I don't need to be all melodramatic about this, it's self-explanatory :) Early 2010 I set up some cameras, and jammed along to a song by my favorite band, in front of thousands of empty chairs in an empty church, at 2am in the morning. A little more than 18 months later I'm jamming the same song, along with Mr Atom Willard: now sitting in real life right across from me, hitting the absolute poo out of his drums and smiling like he always does. Incredibly surreal.

And yes, I left the stick drop in the edit on purpose.. didn't want to hide the fact the the pressure might just have been a tad bit much ;) I was just a normal guy in a VERY surreal and pretty overwhelming experience.

What are you using to mic your hi hats? Im an audio engineer, and when recording, ive tried miking them up with various dynamic mics, but they never sound good. They are mainly picked up by my overheads anyway (usually a pair of NT5s). But In some songs I want them to stand out more than the cymbals which are obviously also recorded by the overheads. So what do you use, or what do you reccommend?

1:21I'm sorry but that is hilarious. At least we know it was definitely not edited.edit: Hilarious meaning I do this all the time/we all do and just the way it went down was comical
