"Lucille", written by McPhatter, from the first session was put on the B-side of "Money Honey", making a recording industry rarity; a single released with songs from two essentially different groups of the same name on the two sides. "Money Honey" was a huge success and propelled the Drifters to immediate fame. What is meant by 1st session. That the song was recorded by 1ST DRIFTERS before Bill Pinkney . This group was only around for 4 songs. Clyde's Boss decided he didn't like this group. Clyde then went out and recruited 4 more. This Group included the man Bill Pinkney. This song was included on the other side of Money Honey, the 1st for the newly formed group. Bill was a natural Bass/ Baritone. However on Money Honey he had to sing 1st tenor (not lead). He was a remarkable talent (By the way it may have went as a b side on other Drifter's hits but this was the 1st)

This was the forerunner of Little Richard's Lucille was it not? Listening to the lyrics it at least influenced LR Lucille

One of the all-time killers. The early Drifters' stuff is overwhelming.
