NO ONE can play this song with this "one moment" sound . Even now when Chicago plays it the JUST RIGHT sound is not there. Once in a lifetime sound. Sound is where it's at. Execution. Chicago CAN do it. Chicago Forever !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I consider this song (Call on Me) Lee Loughnane's masterpiece.

The ballads Peter sung were hit and miss the 80's ones were mainly misses LOL however this one and Wishing You Were Here were fantastic. The Trumpet player Lee wrote this tune!!!!

I think they were one of the first bands who made horns sexy!

As a huge Chi fan, I agree in part w some of the posts. Horns are not as tight as usual, but this is only by their own very lofty standards. I also do prefer studio harmonies, yet it is also interesting to hear songs and vocals evolve live. Short version? It's all good stuff

On this day in 1974 {August 16th} the ABC television network aired the Chicago special 'Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch', featured guests were Anne Murray and Charlie Rich...At the time Chicago's "Call On Me" was in its second week at #6 on Billboard's Hot Top 100, that would be its peak position on the chart...Two days after the special aired, on August 18th, the record would reach #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart...The song was track two of side four on the group's sixth studio album, 'Chicago VII', and on April 21st, 1974 the album peaked at #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart...Two other tracks from the album also made the Top 100 chart; "(I've Been) Searchin' So Long" {peaked at #9 for 3 weeks on May 5th, 1974} and "Wishing You Were Here" {reached #11 for 2 weeks on November 4th, 1974}...And for what it’s worth; the day the special aired the #1 record on the Top 100 was "The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace...

Two things come to mind watching/listening to this:1) You can really see the direction PC was starting to take the band at this time and2) Man that horn section is sloppy! Must be down to the party life style they were living at that timeTK killin it again, as ever, but I'm not a fan of the vocal arrangement on this version

One of my favorite songs. What a perfect blend of rock, jazz, and Latin. Excellent!
