Charlie and his Orchestra were a Nazi-sponsored German propaganda swing band. Jazz music styles were seen by Nazi authorities as rebellious but ironically, propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels conceived of using the style in shortwave radio broadcasts aimed at the United States and (particularly) the United Kingdom.

This is the first time I've heard this version. Especially the use of UN in the lyrics.Charlie did this number, which I still have stored on a cassette somewhere, but different lyrics. In the version I've heard, which is better, he mentions the French girls the Brits bombed and ref. is made to Brits actions against France, that part that wasn't occupied by Germans.9 years назад

Members of the band enjoyed playing the music they loved but couldn't play under the Nazis and it kept them out of the military and away from danger. Allied populations either ignored it or just didn't take it seriously. As propaganda it just didn't work.9 years назад
