NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Chattahoochee 643) Out of Los Angeles, this release from July of 1964 is yet another to be tossed into the huge pile of unique, harmonic Girl Group styled records. The tune, 'All I Do Is Dream Of You' was written in 1934 by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed for the film, 'Sadie McKee'. Since then, the song has been recorded many times over. This version by the Chadons seems to have gotten it's inspiration from another version also recorded in Hollywood one year prior in the summer of 1963. Issued on the Troy label as Rick and Al, composer/singer, RICKIE PAGE & AL DE LORY, composer/arranger/'Wrecking Crew' keyboardist jumped on the boy/girl duet bandwagon in hopes of following in the footsteps of hit making couples of the day, Paul & Paula and Dale & Grace.
As with the Rick and Al version this outing by the Chadons was recorded at Hollywood's Gold Star Studio with engineer Stan Ross at the controls, 'All I Do Is Dream Of You' was the first of two singles issued by the trio on the mighty Chattahoochee label.
The vocals, which may sound like a girl group track, actually include the voice of the group's leader, Chad Allen, sandwiched in the middle of the slick harmonies. Chad recorded over a string of various record labels in the 1960's but is know most for his 1961 Smash Records single, 'Little Lonely'. In 1963, with Faye Paris (mother of the Paris Sisters) as his manager, Chad Allen formed the Chadons which included Tisha Cooper and Cindy Sees who recorded as the Good Girls for the Counsel label on 'I'm In The Mood For Love'. After two years, Cindy left the Chadons and was replaced by Lyle Thompson. When Tisha left, Chad & Lyle continued to perform with two more female replacements before calling it quits. During their nearly ten year career, the Chadons not only made the rounds at the many clubs and venues around southern California but also throughout the United States and abroad.
Chad returned to performing solo in the 1970's and then teaming up with Gary Heath in 1983, known as CHAD & GARY, the two recorded an album and appeared in many of the top hotels and clubs within the Palm Springs, California area.
Still together more than 30 years later, recently Chad & Gary have created a popular line of decorative patio accessories and 7' by 9' stunningly hand-painted umbrellas that they ship all over the country. Their business, 'Canvas In the Garden', is featured and shown regularly with the La Quinta Arts Foundation.
