With all, genuine, due respect to the awareness you're trying to further, we've past the prescribing of language with Y2K. "Gay" is a synonym for "bad" again, but it's obviously inaccurate and tacky and has fallen from general use. You'll only wear out your (obviously very good-hearted) energy resurrecting the P.C. wars. I usually love Cat Power, but she doesn't exactly capture the feel of the Tom Waits original in this cover. More than that, she doesn't exactly make her own interpretation of the feeling. It's the same song with less vocal tonal accuracy and slightly more modern musical equipment. I'm just not feeling it. :/
