This song was recorded in 1978 when Karen was 28 years old.

In 1978, Karen and Richard recorded their first Christmas album, "Christmas Portrait." At the time, the original plan had been for them to record a double Christmas album, but in the end, only one album was released. Karen and Richard planned to return to the studio to record more songs for another Christmas album, but health problems for both of them interfered and any further work on another Christmas album was postponed. Subsequently, Karen died of heart failure in 1983. A year after Karen's death, the second album, "An Old-Fashioned Christmas" was released, which included the out-takes from the Christmas sessions as well as new material recorded by Richard. "Little Altar Boy" was the last song on Side A of the album.

The song was written by Howlett Peter Smith in 1957 and has also been recorded by Vic Damon, Andy Williams, and Glen Campbell.

Stunning, masterful, smooth, silky, angelic. What more can be said about Karen Carpenters voice. Karen certainly had a God gifted talent when it came to singing.

One of my all time favorite not so well known Christmas songs, I especially love the lyric: "What must I do, to be holy like you? Little Altar for let me hear you pray." #music #Carpenters ;)

THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONG THE CARPENTER SONG I HAVE HEARD. I AM FAR FROM PERFECT AND FULL OF IMPERFECTIONS, BUT I TRY TO BE A CHRISTIAN-CATHOLIC. IT IS THE TRUE CHURCH.

Your Addictions carry you through your life or they end up swallowing you whole and you have to start all over AGAIN, IF YOU BELIEVE IN REINCARNATION! Thats all I've got to say for today!

This is one of my favorite Christmas songs, even though it makes me cry. I have the version by Glen Campbell in my collection and I think his is even more emotional. But Karen Carpenter does it very beautifully.

One of the few songs I've heard in my life that makes tears spring to my eyes. Her voice pierces the soul with the emotion and heart she puts into every note. One of the greatest artistic loses of a generation, forever immortalized.
