On the speakers today: Caetano Veloso's 1988 album *Estrangeiro*. This particular tune 'Jasper' never fails to delight me, because it combines a heavy rhythmic groove with lyrics that are actual poetry, and sung beautifully too. That's a pretty rare combination! Arto Lindsay contributes some delightfully dissonant touches on the electric guitar, too.*Time is as weak as water**I'm kneeling on the shore**Showers, palm fronds**Cross me spilling**Silver, sidewalks**Lips so red world so wide**Around my head**Waiting**Time is as weak as water**I taught myself a lesson**I put myself to sleep**Sirens, jasmine**Jasper, flagpole**Tree top, sidewalk**Thursday night, magnolia**Along my street**Later**I taught myself a lesson*What's this about? I think it's about the whole world, and how amazing it is. "The world so wide around my head", a catalog of earthly delights from jasmine to jasper... but then why "I taught myself a lesson - I put myself to sleep"? There's something chilling about how he sings that. So I have to keep listening to it.#favoritemusic
